Development worker improves access to eye care

At least one in every three people with a learning disability has significant sight loss. The pioneering Bridge to Vision Project has been developed by RNIB Scotland and NHS Ayrshire & Arran to improve access to eye health care for adults with learning disabilities. Dr Helen Lynn of NHS Ayrshire & Arran will be reporting on progress and the successful work of the RNIB Development Worker on Insight Radio on Thursday 20 March between 7 and 8 am and again between 9 and 10 am.

Glasgow sets the pace with job initiative

RNIB Scotland has welcomed an initiative by Glasgow City Council to support blind and partially sighted people into work. The Focus on Employability project is the first in the UK and is now offering support and training to jobseekers, employers and employment services.

Phone up for benefits advice

RNIB Scotland has opened a dedicated Benefits Helpline providing blind and partially sighted people in Scotland with information on the benefits and services to which they are entitled. The Benefits Helpline number is 0845 602 4033. RNIB Scotland Benefits Helpline is sponsored by Standard Life.

Campaign warns of sight risks of diabetes

People with diabetes are being reminded of the importance of attending regularly each year for diabetic retinopathy screening. A diabetes awareness campaign run by RNIB Scotland and Diabetes UK Scotland is touring the country. Between a fifth and a third of people with diabetes are missing their screening.
