Summary: Frequently asked questions about transcription

Who should I contact in the first instance if I want to get some work transcribed?

Contact RNIB’s Customer Response team on 0845 702 3153.

Can you help us to get a document put into braille or tape?

Yes, just send us your document and we will deal with the transcription.

What format should the document be sent in?

Print, on disc, by email or by fax.

How much will it cost?

Transcription Centre staff will be able to advise.

How long will it take to transcribe the document?

This depends on the length of the documents and the workload. A letter can be done within a couple of days but for lengthy documents it would be a lead time of three weeks. It will depend on the size and complexity of the work you send in. However all teams involved in producing your work will endeavour to meet any deadline dates agreed.

I am an individual customer, how much can I get transcribed in one go?

For individual customer transcription requests we do have a quota system in place, our Customer Response team will be happy to advise you on this as it will depend on the type of work you are sending in.

How can I find out more about producing information in alternative formats?

See our See it Right pack for further information. You can also visit our Peterborough site to see how it is done in person!
