Help with podcasts

Summary: Information to help you use podcasts.

What is a podcast?

A podcast is an audio file which is distributed over the internet for playback either on your computer or on a portable media player. You can also subscribe to the podcast via a podcast feed.

What's a podcast feed?

A podcast feed is essentially a file containing information about the podcast such as description, running time, web address of the podcast, publication date etc.

Feeds are used by podcast software to download podcasts and to let you know about updates to your favourite podcasts.

How can I get RNIB podcasts?

There are three ways you can receive our podcasts:

    1. Download the MP3 file directly from the podcast's home page

    2. Install a piece of software called a podcatcher and subscribe to the podcast feed

    3. Add the podcast feed to an online podcatcher such as Google Reader or Yahoo!

What's the URL for the feed?

On each podcast homepage, you'll find a "subscribe to this feed" link. On the page that opens when you click this link, copy the text in the "Feed URL" textbox, and paste it into your podcatcher.

How do I add a feed to my podcatcher?

This depends on which software you're using. You'll need to read the help pages for your particular podcatcher.

Are there any accessible podcatchers?

An accessible podcatcher, podcast downloader, RSS reader and several other accessible tools is avialable from Webbie.
