Technology
Course: See IT for Free! Low cost and no cost solutions to access a PC
Summary: Course giving delegates an overview of low cost or no cost access technology solutions.
Description
Much of the software that is available for people who are blind or partially sighted to access computers costs hundreds of pounds. This can present a huge barrier to many people who are being excluded from communicating using Information Technology (IT).
This one-day workshop aims to redress this balance by providing participants with an overview of low cost or no cost access solutions that are out there and available right now!
Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop participants should be able to:
- Overview of magnification and speech with Apple Mac magnification software
- Explore the accessibility features contained within Windows
- Know what free magnification software packages are available and how useful they are
- Know what free screen reader software is available and how good they are
- Know what free Optical Character Recognition software is available and how good they are.
Who should attend?
The workshop will be extremely useful to anyone who supports people who are blind or partially sighted or wants to use low cost solutions to access a PC. Staff at schools, colleges, universities, parents, and anyone in a support role.
